Our upper back is located on the back side of our heart. If you feel like you have been stabbed in the back or betrayed by someone you love in the past, your upper back will feel it. Carrying or feeling responsible for others emotions or experiences and feelings of co-dependency will often materialize as upper back problems. As will having more responsibility than you feel you can handle, not feeling supported emotionally, feeling frustrated and blaming others. Since our energy comes from our heart and moves up and out our arms, how we are handling things or feeling stuck in indecision and causes issues in this area as well. Mind-body connection

Remember to keep your hips just above the knees and arms reach out at shoulder width. I like to clasp my hands around the back of my neck, with my elbows reaching forward, to bring the stretch into my triceps as well. Yummy. ![]() Eagle Pose:
Improves balance; strengthens your inner thighs and ankles; stretches your calves and upper back. Eagle is an all over joint opener and can be therapeutic for sciatica. Try to broaden your upper back, bring your elbows in line with your shoulders, sit down deeper into your legs, and shine the collarbones forward to sit up straight. If you are new to this posture, it can be difficult to bind the crossed leg around the ankle of the standing leg, so instead, simply cross the leg and press the knife-edge or pinky toe of the crossed leg into the side of the standing calf. ![]() Rabbit Pose:
This simple pose places you into a static somersault position, helping you experience spinal flexion (rolling forward), particularly in the thoracic spine. How to Come to Balasana (Child’s Pose), then grasp your heels with your hands. Activate your abdominals and round your spine, setting the top of your head on the ground while lifting your butt away from your heels. Mindfully breathe into the back of your body, and isometrically expand the distances from your crown to your sacrum and between your shoulder blades. Stay here for 8–12 breaths. |
