General Pain Solutions

Chronic pain affects an estimated 116 million American adults—more than the total affected by heart disease, cancer, and diabetes combined. Chronic pain is, quite simply, “the most prevalent human health problem ” and the leading cause of long-term disability according to a study done by the Institute of Medicine, 2011. Americans spend billions of dollars to treat chronic pain.  A new working paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research found the value of avoiding pain ranged from $56 to $145 per day, fluctuating due to factors like household income and severity of the pain.  Not only is this a crazy amount of money to spend to feel good, but many people never really get out of pain. They only slightly reduce the amount of pain by using common Western medicine approaches. See Cost Breakdown of Chronic Pain here.

The other cost of pain is not measureable like the financial cost.  This cost is the toll it takes on the patients well being and quality of life. The cost on your emotional state  and self-esteem to be looked at as broken or disabled.  The way pain can seem to drain your life of joy. Your pain may also affect your family, friends and loved ones in negative ways.  These cost are often felt in even bigger ways than the financial costs.
